Autism
Autism Assistance Service Dogs are trained to ensure the safety and well-being of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Autism Spectrum disorder is a mental condition that involves complex disorders of brain development, service dogs can help with ASD by providing sensory aid or tactile stimulation as well as to provide additional safety measures that can include interrupting repetitive or harmful behaviors.
Wheelchair & Mobility
Wheelchair and Mobility Assistance Service Dogs are trained to perform a wide variety of tasks from retrieving dropped items to opening doors. Ordinary tasks that may seem simple can become challenging if an individual has reduced range of motion. Service dogs can be trained in tasks that help to increase mobility and can offer a great deal of independence to someone who requires the use of a wheelchair.
Stability
Stability Assistance Service Dogs are trained to assist those who have a physical impairment, disability or disorder that directly affects their balance, ambulation or stability. They can be trained to provide a range of tasks from assistance with standing and walking to going up and down stairs.
Signal Alert
Signal Alert Service Dogs are trained for people who are deaf or are hearing impaired. These dogs are trained to alert their owners to specific sounds such as doorbells, fire alarms, or ringing phones, in order to get their owners attention and show them what is making the sound.
Psychiatric
Psychiatric Assistance Service Dogs assist individuals with disabilities such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic or anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and more. Tasks that these service dogs can provide includes, but is not limited to, deep pressure therapy to calm and bring down blood pressure, turn on lights to mitigate stress responses to dark rooms, as well as interrupting repetitive or harmful behaviors.
Medical & Seizure Alert
Medical and Seizure Alert Service Dogs are trained to signal to their handler the onset of a medical issue such as a seizure, heart disease, allergens, or illness that can cause loss of consciousness. Medical alert service dogs can also be trained to assist during a medical emergency by providing support for their handler’s head during a seizure, retrieving medicine such as an EpiPen, or even signaling for help.
